Lisa Eldridge’s Vintage Makeup Collection

Posted in Uncategorized at 11:20 PM by inspirationsbysd

Many gurus on youtube claim to have worked on celebrities and have labeled themselves as “celebrity makeup artists” but not many have the credentials to even be compared to Lisa Eldridge’s work. She has worked with big fashion houses on some of their advertising campaigns, such as Chloe, Prada, and celebrities such as Demi Moore and Selma Hayek. I have been a fan of her videos on youtube, where she shares her makeup tricks and application techniques (I’ve mentioned before, I am not the best in applying makeup and enjoy learning some tricks from her).

Her latest videos I thought were very interesting, here she shares her vintage makeup collection!! It’s so beautiful and it really takes you back and gives you a window into the woman’s world back in the day, it is interesting how much history can a small powder compact carry in it along the years. Check out her collection, let me know what you think :)

And They Lived Happily Ever After :)

Posted in Celebrity Wedding, Wedding dress at 10:28 PM by inspirationsbysd

I bet everyone on the face of the earth was glued to the T.V or at least caught some parts of the Royal Wedding that took place today. I couldn’t stay up to watch it, but I watched some parts of it after everyone else did lol I loved her dress, she looked stunning and so fitting for a princess, and just like everyone had guessed, she wore Alexander McQueen. I thought she looked beautiful, both of them actually, like Cinderella and her prince charming lol and I hate to reduce them to mere Disney characters but really the did look like they just popped out from a fairytale. I loved the trees inside the Abbey, and I loved how she whispered to him “I’m so happy” after the ceremony, hope they have a blissful marriage.

What did you guys think of her dress? And now that a brunette snagged a prince, do you think more girls will go darker? Even though blonds have more fun, brunettes end up marrying a prince ;P

Bridal Gowns With Sleeves

Posted in Uncategorized at 2:57 AM by inspirationsbysd

Finding the right dress with sleeves can be difficult, since most gowns are strapless, here are some gowns that I find just as beautiful with sleeves. You can always wear a cover up, a lace bolero, over a sweetheart neckline if all else fails.

Makeup for Mature Skin

Posted in Uncategorized at 11:48 AM by inspirationsbysd

I am not that good when it comes to makeup, but I have been obsessing over the makeup gurus on youtube for a while now hehe and I really feel like I have picked up a few tricks, and I know for sure that I will never get my makeup done by a “professional” again. I think we know our faces and what looks good on us a lot better than what a professional would, especially as some are used to doing a certain look only and try to match it to your features :S (ex. smokey eye).

So here are some videos on makeup, for mature skin (as requested ;) )

The above video is not my favorite guru…but might help :)

Bridal Gown Preservation and a Giveaway!! (closed) :D

Posted in Uncategorized, Wedding dress at 1:09 AM by inspirationsbysd

Hey guys, I have exciting news!! First of all, I posted awhile back that I will be preserving my bridal gown and that I have chosen to do it at J. Scheer, well I finally managed to drop it off at their branch in New York. I dropped it off in January 2011, and they told me it will take about four months, and I just received my gown yesterday! I swear I felt like a kid I could not wait to open the box, even though I had to wait for the instruction packet that they sent separately lol

But let me start at the very beginning of the process, I contacted them to inform them that I was interested in having my gown preserved and they asked me to send them details on the dress. So I sent them a picture of the dress, as well as the fabric and any details (appliqué etc) and they informed me that it would cost around $900 to get it done. I had a gift card from Amsale, which reduced the price to $795.

Why preserve your gown? When I got my dress, I knew right away that I will have it preserved. I always had this romantic notion that one day my daughter or niece might wear it (although my mom believes no one will be able to fit in it lol) and in order for me to keep that dress in good shape, I had to preserve it. I did ask the people around me for bridal gown preservation services in Kuwait, and most brides informed me that they just had theirs dry cleaned and hanging in the closet, only one bride informed me that she did hers at AlOstura for 500 KD= $1600 (anyone know more about their service?) (update: my friend called AlOstoura, and they informed her that their services start from 65KD up to 200 KD) but really for me, personally, it is not everyday that I splurge on a piece of garment like that, and it also has sentimental value that I do not want to take a risk at just dry cleaning it, and I have mentioned before hanging it in the closet will eventually damage the gown. Most gowns are very heavy and gravity will take its toll and pull at the fabric, and storing it in a plastic bag also can result in yellowing the fabric. Ok, so if I still haven’t made it clear why I would spend $795 on just preserving my gown, I can compare it to insuring your expensive car! When I used to have a nice car, I never went out driving that car without making sure it was fully insured (meaning I’d spend $2000 annually on insurance) so if you’d spend this much on car insurance, why not an expensive piece of fashion? :D I keep telling my husband, some  people are car fanatics, and I’m a fashion fanatic so I take care of my clothes like people take care of their cars lol

Anyway, the preservation should keep your gown safe from dust, fire, mold etc and has a lifetime warranty, the dress is kept in a box used in museums to preserve important historical garments.

So here is the exciting news I’ve kept you waiting for! lol I am giving away $100 J. Scheer gift card (they take international orders) and you don’t really have to be a bride to actually take advantage of their services or enter the giveaway, you can preserve whatever valuable garment you own (such as your baby’s first Eid dress, Christening gown etc) oh and the prices for the preservation services vary depending on the garment, so it is not always $700+  (scroll down for the giveaway rules!!)

I’ll leave you with some pictures of my dress after preservation, and a picture of my friend Kerry’s mother in her beautiful vintage bridal gown :)

French Connection vs. Erdem

Posted in Uncategorized at 8:16 PM by inspirationsbysd

I’m sure you’re all familiar with Erdem’s red lace dress by now, it appeared on the cover of net-a-porter’s magazine, and was worn by Michelle Williams on the red carpet. I love lace, and loved Erdem’s series of colorful lace dresses for net-a-porter but if you are not sure if you can rock this trend, you can always try out the thriftier version by French Connection! I personally still prefer the Erdem one, but you can’t beat the price on the dress from French Connection :)

Valentino Bridal Shoes

Posted in Uncategorized at 12:21 PM by inspirationsbysd

I have been eyeing these shoes on net-a-porter and had to share them on my blog, I love Valentino and I keep saying, you can never go wrong with Valentino. I especially love how lately they’ve been combining the harder edgier rocker look with feminine bows and lace, which is what Valentino is known for. Well, one of the shoes on net-a-porter by Valentino is actually available exclusively on net-a-porter and I’m coveting both!

Colors in Spring 2012

Posted in Collage by Sara D., Uncategorized, Wedding dress at 1:47 AM by inspirationsbysd

The designers have revealed their bridal looks for the Spring 2012, and I noticed that a lot of designers have been embracing the color trend in bridal gowns. Many designers have been introducing colors into their collection for a while, and this Spring is no shy of color for sure. For some cultures, white is not an appropriate color for a bridal gown, so it is nice to see more colors, and even though I would not consider myself a traditionalist in any sense, I still cannot picture bold colors for bridal gowns, but I do love the colors on the runway, a lot of blush tones, neutrals and earthy tones that set the trend for Spring 2012 which is so beautiful and really doable and a breath of fresh air, here are some looks from Spring 2012 :)

1- Carolina Herrera (don’t you just love the anemone flowers?) 2-Vera Wang 3-Vera Wang 4- Monique Lhuillier 5-Oscar De La Renta 6- Oscar de La Renta 7- Vera Wang 8- Alexander McQueen 9- Vera Wang

Vera Wang’s The Traditionalist Barbie

Posted in Wedding dress at 10:47 PM by inspirationsbysd

Vera Wang’s latest addition to the bridal world is the Traditionalist Barbie, this Barbie is part of  the Vera Wang Barbie collection, her dress captures the true elegance of Vera Wang’s brides. Her dress has a ribbon bow on the shoulder and of course the full tulle skirt that has graced Wang’s runway shows.

I think this would be a great gift to hand out to your bridal party, if you, yourself, will be wearing a Vera Wang on your wedding day, you can even personalize the box and have your own monogram on it! Also a great gift for Barbie collectors :)
