Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade!!!
I just came back from a great long weekend which I spent with my family in NYC. I loooove this city I still wonder what it would have been like had I accepted the university in NYC’s offer instead lol but no regrets since I still go there whenever I can!
Our trip this time was a bit short, and was “kid friendly” since my nephew joined us, it was his first time in the States so he had a blast! My highlight of the trip was attending the Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade!! I have been planning this trip around the parade, and did my research on it so I knew enough on how to attend and how to get the best view etc.
First of, a little about the parade:
The Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade has become an annual tradition that people wait for on Thanksgiving day, I used to watch it as a kid on T.V! The first parade was in 1927 and since most of Macy’s employees were first generation immigrants they felt the need to celebrate Thanksgiving and show their pride in now being American. It was not as big and elaborate as the parades we see now, it was mainly the employees walking down the streets wearing vibrant costumes. The balloon characters were introduced to the parade much later and has since then become a fixture of American culture . Every year Macy’s introduces new balloon characters to the line up as well as invite celebrities (musicians/actors) to perform on the floats during the parade.
Here are some of the pictures I took during this year’s Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade 2010:
Here are some tips for attending the parade:
1) Wear layers, it gets pretty cold especially since you’ll be standing there for over 3 hours and it can reach 4C or 2C
2) Be prepared to set your alarm clock at 4 am the night before! Yes people start lining up as early as 6 am (the parade starts 9 am EST)
3) check the parade’s route before you plan your trip, we stayed in a hotel that was close to the parade (in central park south) so we didn’t have to walk much to get a good spot.
4) When you get there, keep asking the police officers if you are in the right place. There are vip areas as well as handicap areas and you don’t want to be standing in the wrong side only to find out when it is too late!
5) The parade starts at Central Park West and ends at Macy’s that is where the musicians perform, the best view of the parade is in Central Park 72nd to 60.
6) Bring a blanket, to place on the floor while waiting for the parade to start and to reserve a spot, and to wrap the little ones in.
7) Get “hand warmers” they are little satchels when you open them they heat up and retain the heat for up to 10 hours, I wore gloves and had the hand warmers in my pocket but my fingers were still freezing!
8 ) Bring an umbrella with you, because it might rain and the parade keeps going no matter what the weather conditions are!

Lanvin <3 H&M is finally here!!!
Ok as insane as this may sound, we drove 2.5 hours to shop the Lanvin + H&M collection. Only select branches have the collection, and that is one collection I did not want to miss out! So yes, I spent my birthday at the shopping mall lol But we did “celebrate” at The Cheesecake Factory, oh yes did I forget to mention? I turned 28 today yesterday!
So back to the H&M store, it opened 10 AM…we reached there 1 PM and half of the stuff were sold out! *eek* so we basically grabbed whatever was available in our sizes lol But really the collection is the best they have had so far, and I have never shopped so much at H&M ever before! I think this will be one of the very few times that I will actually
The collection is great, I am sure you have seen it online, my most favorite are the dresses and the shoes! What do you think of the collection? Was it sold out in Kuwait as well? I know 2 branches are launching the collection so that means more stuff are available to you lucky Kuwaiti girls
Hope you enjoyed it as much as I did! Can’t wait to wear them!
I love the attention to detail on the collection, so I snapped some pics of some of the stuff
And here are some random pictures of the Christmas decorations at the mall

Mad About You!
I am in looove with Ruthie Davis Fall/Winter 2010 collection, the shoes are adorned with edgy sharp studs and bright crystals. I love the contrast of femininity and edginess to the collection. The skyscraper heels add an extra umph to these shoes that are worn by celebrities such as Kim Kardashian, Beyonce, Katy Perry and much more! One thing that really disappoints me not just in her collection but in almost all shoe designers these days are the CRAZY PLATFORMS! I am not going gaga over the gaga platforms, I actually would prefer most of these shoes without the platforms…we are not all stage performers and some of us would rather not be on some sort of platform :/
What do you guys think of the high platforms on most heels these days? Do you like/dislike them?

Eid and My White Tree! :)
Well, first of I just want to wish everyone a Eid Mubarak and hope everyone has a great time with their families. As for myself family is here to visit me, I am so thrilled too bad my husband couldn’t join them! I miss Kuwait and my family so much, it feels great to have them over. As a surprise I put up the tree before they arrived, my nephew was hoping for snow and since it still did not snow yet, I thought I would make it up to him by putting up a snow-white tree. This would be my first tree as an adult, as a kid my mom used to decorate our house based on the season and I remember at a certain point we had two trees. For some reason I thought each member of the family should get one and nagged and begged to have my own, so they got me a teenee weenee tiny one (I was 3 or 4 then).
I remember way before the “cupcake generation” was conceived I used to hate it when my mom puts up the tree especially in Kuwait, I did not want to have my friends over I did not know how they’d react to it. It took me years to accept it and actually love having it home, I don’t personally see anything wrong with putting one up now. If we grew up in India we would continue to celebrate Devali, if Mexico then Día de los Muertos etc.
I decided to go for a snow-white tree with an ice skating theme and icicles, I love the ornaments I got most of them from Kohl’s, Macy’s and Target.

An Unpolished Gem: Push, Book Review
*SPOILER ALERT*
I got this novel/novella last year but was not emotionally ready to read it until now, and let me tell you I have no idea what took me so long! This is one of those books you will not be able to put down until you are done with it, and while you are reading it you check how many pages are left because you do not want it to end. You may all know this, that the award-winning movie Precious is based on the novel Push by Sapphire, the story follows a young girl’s challenging passage to adulthood. Clarisse Precious Jones is a young African-American girl in Harlem, NY who bears her father’s child at the age of 12. Life does not offer her any chance or a glimmer of hope, but the illiterate young girl pushes for a better life. What I love about the narrative, is that Sapphire uses a vernacular that brings the reader to where Precious, the main character, stands. Starting with barely comprehensible dialect “I was left back when I was twelve because I had a baby for my fahver.” (Sapphire 3) and gradually as the reader struggles with her reality, she begins to learn to read and write. Even though Precious seeks therapy in the story, the main therapy she receives is in the classroom that allows her to deal with her molestation, bearing her father’s children and finally his disease.
Whatever life brings her way, Precious continues to push through and persevere. A beautiful story about a young girl dealing with child abuse, obesity, poverty and pain. If you are a fan of Toni Morrison, Alice Walker then this book is right up your alley.
